Hi,
I have tested your new implementation for erasing, and works on bitmap layers but doesn’t work on vector layers. Maybe this is not an issue.

On vector-layers the only drawing tool that uses sizes changes is the PEN tool. The Pencil and Brush tools do not. So in order to keep things clear, as @gordie once said, why not to disable those features that are not going to be used on a specific environment?
On Vector-layers (disable: Pencil Size (Feather is already disable), Brush Size/Feather, Pen Feather)
On Bitmap layers (disable: Pen Feather)
