File disappeared

Hello, my animation file is completely gone after saving it. (Windows 11)

I saved and closed the file like normal, then left and came back after about a few minutes but when I returned the file was gone.

It is the only file that disappeared on my laptop as files that i had created after that one are still present.

I checked the temp folder, i don’t have an antivirus (which probably isn’t ideal but that’s besides the point), its not in my recycle bin as previously recycled files are still present there and no one went out to actively delete it because I was alone.

In the future I will create back ups, but as for the present, are there any other options available.

The most common mistake that people make, not just with Pencil2D, but with software like MSWord too, is to always save a project using the same filename.

If you use different Filenames such as Myproject-1, Myproject-2 etc. then you won’t loose all of them.

Also if you loose an entire project, it can be demoralising, but sometimes having to reconstruct part of a project can improve your animation technique.

This is because you have see what doesn’t work and what does and a second attempt you can build on this knowledge.
