Exporting non-blurred pixel art movies

Hi,

I’m trying to export my movie, but the video it exports is extremely blurry. This might be a macOS issue, but I frankly have no idea. My movie is exported in the same resolution as the camera. I’ve attached an example of this happening below. Is there a setting I can change to fix this? Is this a pencil2d issue or a macOS issue?

(how it looks when exported)

A quite thorough discussion of possible causes of blurry video when exporting is available here: [Guide] A Comprehensive Guide to Pencil2D Video Export Issues .

Most the video export formats in Pencil2D are not good options for pixel art as they tend to blur sharp edges as a result of the lossy encoding of videos that were designed for other purposes. Video players will blur the video further if you are not playing back at a 1:1 scale. I recommend trying the Animated GIF export or Movie export with the APNG format.

If you are set on video formats (ex. because you need sound), then I recommend exporting as an image sequence, importing that image sequence to a dedicated video editor that supports video scaling with the nearest neighbor algorithm, and exporting the video at 4x scale. This won’t result in a sharp video because the video encoding will still be lossy and the video player will still scale the video, but it will appear much blockier because each pixel in your image would now by a 4x4 square of pixels. Blender can do this, but it’s far from user friendly.

There is a way to get non blurred output from Pencil2d and that is to use Vector graphics mode!

The vectors are converted to bitmapped images when the file is exported either as a .GIF or as a .MP4 Movie.

The best way to understand how to use Vector mode, load the file Bear_Draw-4.pclx and examine it carefully.
