Copy and Paste and the following frame will disappear

Hello,

I am a beginner of stop motion.

I can’t find many software that support png files.

Dragonframe and Stop Motion don’t support png files. When I import my files, the background turns black.

In Pencil2D, I can use png files and add different background.

However, when I try to copy and paste frames, sometimes the following frame will disappear. I have to save every time I successfully copy and paste, and keep my eyes on if there is any frame missing during the process.

Any one met the same problem? Thanks.

Hi Esme

When you say disappear, are you referring to the keyframe on the timeline or the content on the canvas?

We have a bug currently where a frame can become invisible under some circumstances.

Is this what you’re experiencing?

When I copy and paste, sometimes the frame on the timeline will be empty. The actually frame will disappear on the canvas. When I try to export the movie, the frame is still disappear.

I see, that seems to be something else then. Is it something you can reproduce somewhat consistently?

Can you for example provide a list of steps to reproduce it or maybe show a video of the problem?

I copy and paste several frames, and some of the frames are missing. See the pictures.

I’ve found that copy & paste sometimes results in empty frames.

I’ve found that if the source frame, the copy area is still active, then Pencil2D occasionally doesn’t copy the image into the destination.

What causes me to say this, sometime I move the selection to a new position in the receiving frame and sometimes see it move back into the original position within a second of pasting it!

I hope this is helpful.

When you select an area of a frame, or frame to the operating system doesn’t know how large this area is in memory.

To select an area you use the Selection Select Tool.

Then you use copy, this copies the image onto your computers clipboard. This is a shared area of memory to facilitate data transfer within or between application, like Pencil2D.

For data transfer security, you should choose the Move Move Tool and right click outside the selected area.

This is computer terms is called finalisation. This defines the data size. in this case on the clipboard.

You then select the destination frame, paste the image and the using the Move Tool right click outsie the pasted image area.

This problem is not within Pencil2D, but is in your computers operating system. If you follow the advice and do the finalisation everytime you move data within Pencil2D you won’t have any more problems. After a short while this will become automatic!

I hope this more formal explanation is useful.

Sometimes it is the following frame becomes empty. And I have to reimport the frame or copy and paste again. Last time I was tuning my 272 frames, I have to save each time after I copied and pasted. It cost me 2 hours.
