Audio editing in Pencil2d?

So I was wondering if it was possible to edit the audio layer by cutting it down. I only want about 30 seconds of a song for this animation, so can I cut out the rest of it in Pencil2d or do I need another program to do that?

@MelodyAnimations Hi! Well, it’s a feature that has been requested for the software in the past, but I’m afraid you won’t be able to do it right now. If you want to cut your sounds you’d have to use a sound editor or a video editor with similar capabilities.

For free sound editing I recommend Audacity (http://audacityteam.org) for a video editor I recommend Kdenlive (http://www.kdenlive.org)

If you’re planning to animate to sound in Pencil2D, my suggestion is to plan how much time you want your animation to last, and cut the sound to that duration. But if you want to have lip-sync and dialogue. You’ll have to put the dummy sounds on Pencil2D export an image sequence and use the video editor to line the sound properly

Hi @MelodyAnimations, welcome to the forum! Like @JoseMoreno said, someone else recently suggested this feature, too, so if you’d like to keep up-to-date or if you have some additional input, head to issue #858 on our bug tracker. However, as mentioned in that issue, it could take some time before we get to tackle that feature since our focus is mostly on the animation part of the software, and a lack of work to be done is unfortunately not one of our problems. That said, if you happen to know a thing or two about C++ and are willing to help us out we’ll be more than happy to have you aboard!
